Our new timetable will start on Monday 6th September and finish on Sunday 24th October. You will no longer be required to book in. We will still be running the one-way system, so ask that swimmers arrive beach ready (swimwear on underneath outside clothing), go straight onto poolside, do your swim, then use the changing room on the way out only.
Wem Swimming and Lifestyle Centre
Wem Swimming and Lifestyle Centre Ltd (WSLC) manages Wem Swimming Pool from January 1st 2015.
WSLC is a charity and an Industrial Provident Society. Trustees are members of the local community and have worked tirelessly to achieve the aim to manage the pool and gym from January 2015 thus saving this well-used public pool and gym from closure.
In 2013, Wem Town Council took up WSLC’s offer to manage the Centre and so began the Partnership by placing the day to day running into the hands of this local trust securing this piece of the town’s ‘family silver’ for the future.
With encouragement from the Town Council, the ‘Friends’ group set out a vision for Wem Pool, investigated what needed to be repaired, replaced and upgraded and wrote a viable business plan under the name of ‘Wem Swimming and Lifestyle Centre’.
Our logo is designed by a young Wemian designer and proudly worn on the Staff’s locally produced new sports kit.
Following monthly partnership meetings and an extensive public consultation through market research, opportunities for the community include:
* Membership; please look at the Membership page of this website.
* Sessions available for local schools and businesses
* Improved swimming programme with new sessions
* Early Morning swim session
* Swimming lessons for children and adults
* Swimfit: personal training for pool and gym
* Tri Swim: Triathlon swim session or to help improve your swim
* Training courses
The Wem Town Council, WSLC staff and Trustees are keen to ‘get it right’. Now in our fifth year, our Trustees and dedicated staff continue to work to ensure the business remains successful.
In 2018, a new fitness centre was built with 22 stations. Funding for the build and equipment was obtained from Sports England, Community shares and smaller grants. It was opened by the Mayor of Wem in September 2018
